IMMP Art Challenge Winner Announcement!

| By Mattie Naythons
Topics: Orcas

Congratulations to the winners of the #IMMPArtChallenge!

IN THE YOUTH CATEGORY...

First Place: Aria Luna

Title: Turning Tides

"Orcas are beautiful sensitive creatures and their power is often misunderstood. I wanted to paint an orca that's a little bit magical, with wing-like fins, that creates a new tide as it flies out of the waves—this is the tide of change that we all have to make happen to save our oceans and all the marine life in it."

Second Place: Abirami Subramanian

Title: Orca

"Depicted in the water surrounded by some other smaller sea creatures, I have drawn this piece with more of a minimalist aesthetic in mind."

IN THE ADULT CATEGORY...

First Place: Tiffany Budd

Title: The Rainbow Orca Family

“Orcas are such graceful creatures in the sea, and to lose them 'over the rainbow' would be devastating. This is why I have painted them in many colours. My Rainbow animals.”

Second Place: Nicole Archer

Title: Orcinus Orca

"As a recent Marine Ecology graduate and educator, I tend to take my inspiration directly from the marine environment. Through my simplistic black and white textbook-like drawings, I am able to teach my viewers new things about each animal that comes across my page while representing them in a somewhat accurate form."

A huge thank you to Klean Kanteen for partnering with us to promote orca conservation and for donating environmentally friendly water bottles as prizes for all four winners of the challenge.

Another huge thanks to all those who participated and contributed their art to the IMMP Art Challenge. It’s heartwarming to know that so many people care about our oceans and the creatures who inhabit them. Orcas are the apex predators of the sea, as well as a keystone species. Orcas are critical to ocean health and balance.
