May 11th marks the seventh annual Empty the Tanks Day demonstrations around the world to bring attention to the cruelty of the keeping of whales and dolphins in captivity for our entertainment.

Many groups are hosting demonstrations at local aquariums and other dolphin facilities. A complete list can be found on the event Facebook Page.

If you do not see an event near you, why not gather your friends and plan one for your area?

In addition to protesting at dolphinariums, many groups plan demonstrations in front of travel agencies and other tour organizations that promote trips to “swim with dolphins” or aquariums.

Or, you can gather friends in your home for a “virtual” demonstration, sending letters and emails to elected representatives urging them to end keeping of cetaceans in captivity.

Help us help the dolphins. The International Marine Mammal Project of Earth Island Institute has several lawsuits against SeaWorld and government agencies promoting the keeping of whales and dolphins in small concrete tanks to do tricks for the public. Your donation helps us fight this abuse of these intelligent and social beings.
